puzzle #1: themeless one

hello! first post on a brand new crossword blog, and i'm not quite sure how it's going to go yet, but here we are. really really excited to be doing this; i've wanted to make an indie blog for some time now but kept getting distracted with other things. but we're up now, so welcome to gecxwords!

this puzzle was seeded by 29-across, a banger musical that i'm STILL thinking about, and the grid was born from there! special shoutout to brooke husic (@xandraladee on twitter) for both test solving and inspiring the clue for 27-down. she has today's usat puzzle-- please check it out!
